US Business Address for Your LLC When You Live Abroad
Your LLC needs a registered agent address to exist, but banks, Stripe, Amazon and clients often ask for a US business address too. Here is the difference between them, which one each platform accepts, and what is included with LLCPronto.
A US business address for LLC owners abroad is a street address in the US where your LLC receives mail and that you list on bank, payment and marketplace applications. It is different from your registered agent address, which is only for legal and state mail. Every LLCPronto package includes a US mailing address for the first year, with mail scanned and emailed to you.

Three US Addresses, Three Different Jobs
| Address | What it is for | Required? |
|---|---|---|
| Registered agent address | Lawsuits and official state mail | Yes, in every state |
| US mailing address | Letters, bank cards and documents for the LLC | No, but very useful |
| Business (operating) address | Where the business is based; used on bank, Stripe and Amazon applications | Asked for by most providers |
Who Needs a US Business Address?
- Founders opening a US business bank account
- Anyone applying for Stripe or PayPal
- Amazon, Shopify, Etsy and eBay sellers registering a US business
- Founders who want their home address off public and client-facing documents
Which Addresses Do Providers Accept?
Rules differ by provider and change over time. In general:
- PO boxes are almost never accepted as a business address.
- Registered agent addresses are often rejected by banks and payment platforms.
- Virtual or mail-forwarding addresses are accepted by some providers and not others.
- Your personal address abroad is still needed for identity checks.
Before you apply anywhere, we tell you which kind of address that provider is likely to accept, so you do not waste an application.
What Is Included With LLCPronto
- A US mailing address for your LLC for the first year
- Mail received, scanned and emailed to you
- A registered agent address in your LLC’s state, kept separate
- Help choosing the right address for each application
Common Address Mistakes
- Using the registered agent address everywhere. It is for legal mail, not your bank or Stripe application.
- Using different addresses on different applications. Providers compare them.
- Using a PO box. Stripe and most banks reject it.
- Borrowing a friend’s US address. It causes problems when mail or verification letters go missing.
US Business Address for LLC Owners: Keep It Consistent
Providers compare your details across documents. Use the same US business address, written exactly the same way, on your bank application, Stripe, PayPal, Amazon and your website. Small differences, such as “Suite 100” on one and “#100” on another, can trigger extra checks.
Changing Your LLC’s Address Later
- Update the IRS with Form 8822-B so tax letters reach you
- Update the state if your state lists a principal or mailing address
- Change the address with your bank, Stripe, PayPal and marketplaces
- Keep proof of the old and new address in case a provider asks

US Business Address FAQs
Do I need a US business address for my LLC?
You need a registered agent address to form the LLC. A separate US business or mailing address is not legally required, but banks, Stripe, Amazon and many clients ask for one, and it keeps your home address off your business documents.
Is a registered agent address the same as a business address?
No. A registered agent address is for lawsuits and state mail. Many banks and payment platforms will not accept it as your business address.
Can I use a virtual address for my bank account or Stripe?
Some providers accept virtual or mail-forwarding addresses and some do not. Stripe does not accept PO boxes. Check each provider’s rules before you apply; we help you choose the address that fits.
Can I use my home address outside the US?
Yes for your personal details, since banks need your real residential address. For the LLC’s US business address, most providers want an address in the US.
What happens to mail sent to my US address?
Mail is received, scanned and sent to you by email, so you can read it from anywhere.
Can I change my LLC’s US business address later?
Yes. Update the IRS with Form 8822-B, the state if it lists your address, and every bank and platform account.
