US Business Bank Account for a Non-Resident LLC

A US business account lets your LLC receive payouts from Amazon, Stripe and clients, and pay suppliers in dollars. Non-residents can often open one online. We help you pick the right options for your country and prepare an application that is complete the first time.

Quick answer

Getting a US bank account for non-resident LLC owners is possible. Yes, a non-resident can open a US business bank account for an LLC, but not with every provider. You need your approved LLC documents, an EIN, your passport and proof of address. Online providers can open accounts remotely if they accept your country of residence; most big banks require a US branch visit. Approval is always decided by the provider.

Do You Need a Separate Bank Account for Your LLC?

Yes. Keeping the LLC’s money in its own account protects the liability shield an LLC gives you, makes Form 5472 and other filings simpler, and is required by Stripe, Amazon, Shopify Payments and most other platforms, which pay out only to an account in the LLC’s name.

Can a Non-Resident Open a US Business Bank Account?

Yes. US law does not require a business owner to live in the US to open an account for their LLC. What limits you is each provider’s own rules: which countries it serves, which business types it accepts, and whether it opens accounts remotely.

US Bank Account for Non-Resident LLC Owners: Online Providers vs Traditional Banks

Rules change often. Before you apply anywhere, we check the provider’s current eligibility for your country and business type.

What This Means by Country

Your country of residence matters more than your nationality. Mercury, for example, cannot open accounts for founders who live in countries on its list, which as of October 2026 includes Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Nigeria, the Philippines, Vietnam and Ukraine. Founders living in the UAE, the UK, Canada, Australia, India and most of Europe are not on that list, but every application is still reviewed individually.

If you live in a country that many providers restrict, plan for fewer options and longer reviews, and apply only where your country is accepted. Founders from Pakistan can read our US LLC from Pakistan guide.

Documents You Need

  • Approved Articles of Organization from the state
  • The IRS confirmation of your EIN
  • Passport for each owner with 25% or more
  • Proof of your home address that matches your ID
  • A clear business description, plus a website or online store if you have one
  • Sometimes a US business address; some providers do not accept registered-agent or virtual addresses

How Long It Takes

Online providers usually decide within one to three weeks once your LLC and EIN are ready. Reviews can take longer for founders in countries that providers check more closely, or when documents need corrections.

Why Applications Get Rejected

  • Mismatched details. The LLC name, your name or your address is spelled differently across documents.
  • A vague business description. “Online business” is not enough; say what you sell and to whom.
  • No online presence. A simple website or store helps a lot.
  • An unsupported country or industry. Applying where you are not eligible wastes time.
  • Using someone else’s details. The account must be in the real owner’s name. Borrowed identities lead to closed accounts and frozen funds.

Bank Account vs Stripe: Two Separate Approvals

Stripe US needs a US bank account in your LLC’s name for payouts, and it may not accept Wise or Payoneer details for this. Open the bank account first, then apply to Stripe. Each one decides separately; one approval does not guarantee the other.

Business Bank Account FAQs

Can a non-resident open a US business bank account for an LLC?

Yes, but it depends on the provider, your country of residence and your business. Several online providers open accounts remotely for US LLCs owned by people abroad. Traditional banks usually ask you to visit a US branch.

Can I open a US business bank account online without visiting the US?

Often, yes, through online providers such as Mercury, Relay, Wise Business or Payoneer, if they accept your country and business type. Most large banks, like Chase, Bank of America and Wells Fargo, usually require an in-person visit for non-resident owners.

What documents do I need to open a bank account for my LLC?

Your approved Articles of Organization, the IRS EIN confirmation, each owner’s passport, proof of your home address, and a clear description of your business, ideally with a website or online store.

Which countries can’t use Mercury?

Mercury publishes a list of countries where it cannot open accounts for founders who live there, based on residence, not citizenship. As of October 2026 it includes Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Nigeria, the Philippines, Vietnam and Ukraine, among others. Check Mercury’s page before applying.

Is Wise or Payoneer a real US bank account?

No. Wise and Payoneer are payment companies, not banks. They can give your business US account details for receiving money, but some platforms, including Stripe, may not accept them as a US bank for payouts.

Why do bank applications get rejected?

The most common reasons are names or addresses that do not match across documents, a vague business description, no website, a country of residence the provider does not accept, or a business type it does not serve.

Do I need an SSN or ITIN to open a business bank account?

Not with most online providers; your LLC’s EIN and your passport are usually enough. Some traditional banks ask for more, which is one reason they are harder for non-residents.

Can LLCPronto guarantee a bank account?

No one can. Each provider makes its own decision. We check which options fit your country and business before you apply and prepare documents that match exactly, which avoids the most common rejections.
