Stripe and PayPal for a US LLC Owned From Abroad
Stripe and PayPal are not available in every country. A US LLC with an EIN and a US bank account is the usual way for founders abroad to accept card payments. Here is what each platform needs, in what order, and what can go wrong.
Stripe for non-US residents works through a US company. To use Stripe as a founder outside the US, you need a US LLC, its EIN, a US bank account in the LLC’s name and a physical US business address. Set them up in that order, then apply to Stripe. Stripe decides on approval, and it can review accounts again later.

Stripe for Non-US Residents: Why a US LLC Helps
Stripe only accepts businesses registered in the countries it supports, and many founders live in countries Stripe does not serve. A US LLC is a US business, so it can apply to Stripe US, and the same LLC also opens the door to PayPal Business US and Shopify Payments.
The Right Order: LLC, EIN, Bank, Then Stripe
| Step | Why it comes first | Where to start |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Form the US LLC | Stripe verifies the legal company name and state | Non-resident LLC |
| 2. Get the EIN | Stripe needs the LLC’s US tax ID | EIN for non-residents |
| 3. Open a US bank account | Payouts go to an account in the LLC’s name | Bank account guide |
| 4. Set up a business address | Stripe needs a physical address, not a PO box | Mailing address included in our package |
| 5. Apply to Stripe | Everything above must match exactly | We help you prepare it |
What Stripe Needs From a Foreign-Owned LLC
- The LLC’s exact legal name and state of formation
- The LLC’s EIN
- A physical business address in the US (PO boxes are not accepted)
- A US bank account in the LLC’s name for payouts
- Details of the owner or representative, verified with a passport
- A website or store that clearly shows what you sell, your prices, and refund and contact information
Website checklist before you apply
- Clear product or service descriptions and prices
- A refund or cancellation policy, terms and a privacy policy
- Contact details that match your application
- No placeholder text or “coming soon” pages
PayPal Business With a US LLC
A US LLC with an EIN can also apply for a US PayPal Business account. PayPal runs its own checks and may ask for extra verification of the owner. Approval at Stripe does not mean approval at PayPal, or the other way round.
Why Stripe Applications Get Rejected
- Mismatched details. The LLC name, address or EIN differ between Stripe and your documents.
- Using a registered agent or PO box address as the business address.
- Non-US payout details that Stripe flags, such as some Wise or Payoneer accounts.
- A thin or unclear website, or a product Stripe does not allow.
- Applying before the bank account is open.

Stripe and PayPal FAQs
Can a non-resident use Stripe?
Yes, through a US LLC. Stripe US accepts businesses registered in the United States even if the owner lives abroad. Stripe checks the LLC, its EIN, a physical business address and a US bank account in the LLC’s name for payouts.
What do I need before applying to Stripe?
An approved US LLC, its EIN, a US bank account in the LLC’s name, a physical business address (not a PO box), a working website that describes what you sell, and your passport for identity checks.
Can I use Wise or Payoneer as my Stripe payout account?
Sometimes Stripe accepts them and sometimes it flags them as non-US bank details. A US business bank account in the LLC’s name is the safest choice for payouts.
How long does Stripe approval take?
Often a few days once everything matches, but Stripe can ask for more documents or review your account later. There is no fixed timeline.
Can I get PayPal Business with a US LLC?
You can apply for a US PayPal Business account with your LLC and EIN. PayPal may ask for extra verification of the owner, and its decision is separate from Stripe’s.
Is Stripe approval guaranteed?
No. Stripe makes the final decision and can review accounts later. We make sure your LLC, EIN, address and bank details match exactly and help you prepare the application, which avoids the most common rejections.
