How to Open a Stripe Account in Philippines (2026)
Stripe does not accept businesses registered in Philippines. The legal way Filipino founders get Stripe is a US LLC with its own EIN, US bank account and Stripe US account. This guide shows how to open a Stripe account in the Philippines, step by step, what Stripe checks, and the mistakes that get accounts closed.
Stripe is not open to local businesses in Philippines. To accept Stripe payments from Philippines, form a US LLC (New Mexico or Wyoming are the usual picks), get an EIN without an SSN, open a US business bank account, then apply for Stripe US as the LLC’s owner. Our all-in LLC packages start at $190 and include the state fee, registered agent and EIN.
Is Stripe Available in Philippines?
No. Stripe does not let businesses registered in Philippines open an account. Philippines is not on Stripe’s list of supported countries, so a Filipino company or sole trader cannot sign up directly.
Inside Philippines, businesses use local gateways such as PayMongo, Xendit, GCash and Maya. They work well for customers in Philippines, but they are strong for peso payments but are not built for a US dollar checkout for customers worldwide.
The Philippines has a huge virtual assistant, BPO and creative freelance workforce serving US clients, many of whom prefer paying a US company.
Why Filipino Founders Use a US LLC for Stripe
- Stripe accepts US companies with foreign owners. The business must be registered in the US. Where the owner lives is a separate question.
- Global card payments in US dollars. Customers in the US, UK, Europe and the Gulf pay you by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
- Subscriptions, invoices and payment links. SaaS, courses, agencies and online stores get all of Stripe’s tools.
- More trust with foreign clients. A US company name, US bank details and a US checkout look familiar to buyers abroad.
- One company for other platforms too. The same LLC can be used for Amazon, Shopify Payments and US marketplaces. See Amazon & Shopify setup.
How to Open a Stripe Account in the Philippines: Step by Step
- Form a US LLC. Most non-residents choose New Mexico (no annual report) or Wyoming (strong privacy, low yearly cost). Compare them in Wyoming vs New Mexico.
- Get an EIN. The IRS issues an Employer Identification Number to the LLC. Without an SSN it is applied for with Form SS-4, not the online system. Read EIN for non-residents.
- Get a real US business address. Stripe does not accept PO boxes. Use a proper business address service, not a friend’s home. See US business address.
- Open a US business bank account. Mercury does not accept founders from Philippines; it placed Philippines on its restricted list in 2024. Other US banks and fintechs may accept you, and the options change often, so check which ones currently work for Philippines residents before applying.
- Prepare your website. Stripe reviews it. Show what you sell, prices, a refund policy, terms, a privacy policy and real contact details. Your business must not be on Stripe’s restricted list.
- Apply for Stripe US. Enter the LLC’s legal name, EIN, US address and bank account. As the owner and representative, verify with your Filipino passport and your TIN.
- Get paid and move money home. Stripe pays out to the US bank account in dollars. From there you transfer to your account in Philippines. See the section on getting money home below.
What Stripe Asks For
| Item | What Stripe needs | Notes for Philippines |
|---|---|---|
| Business | A US-registered company (your LLC) | A company registered in Philippines cannot be used |
| Tax ID | The LLC’s EIN | No SSN needed for the LLC |
| Representative | Owner or manager with ID | Filipino passport plus your TIN |
| Address | Real US business address | PO boxes are rejected |
| Bank account | US account in the LLC’s name | Mercury is not open to Philippines; use another US bank or fintech |
| Website | Live site with policies and prices | Stripe checks it before and after approval |
How Much It Costs
Our all-in LLC package starts at $190. It includes the state filing fee, a registered agent for the first year and the EIN. Stripe itself has no signup fee; it charges a fee on each payment, published on Stripe’s pricing page. After the first year you pay only the state’s yearly fee (if any) and the registered agent renewal. See pricing for all states.
Want help with the Stripe application itself? Our Stripe & PayPal setup service checks your website, prepares the details Stripe asks for and helps if Stripe requests more documents. No company can promise Stripe approval, and we never do; the decision is Stripe’s.
Banking for Your LLC From the Philippines
Banking is the step where Philippines founders most often get stuck. Mercury, the bank many non-resident LLCs use, added Philippines to its list of restricted countries in 2024 and closed accounts linked to it. That does not make a US bank account impossible, but you need a bank or fintech that currently accepts owners from Philippines, and every application must use your real details. Before you apply, we tell you which options are working for our Philippines clients at that time. Never use a friend’s US identity to open the account: the bank and Stripe will both find out.
Getting Your Money Home to Philippines
Send dollars from the US account to a Philippine bank or e-wallet through licensed channels, and keep records for the Bureau of Internal Revenue. Filipino residents are taxed on their worldwide income.
On the US side, a single-member LLC owned by a non-US person must file Form 5472 with a pro forma Form 1120 every year, even when no US tax is due. Missing it can bring a $25,000 IRS penalty, so put it in your calendar from day one.
Mistakes That Get Stripe Accounts Closed
- Using a US address or phone number that is not really yours, or someone else’s ID
- Selling something on Stripe’s restricted or prohibited list
- A website with no refund policy, no contact details or prices that do not match your checkout
- Logging in from Philippines while claiming to live in the US. Be honest that you are a non-US owner; Stripe allows it
- Sudden large payments with no history. Start with normal volume and keep invoices and delivery proof
- High refunds or chargebacks. Clear product descriptions and fast support keep disputes low
Stripe (via US LLC) vs Local Options in Philippines
| Feature | Stripe via US LLC | Local gateways in Philippines |
|---|---|---|
| Customers | Worldwide cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay | Mostly customers in Philippines |
| Currency | US dollars (and many others) | Philippine pesos (PHP) |
| Subscriptions | Yes, built in | Limited or none |
| Setup | US LLC, EIN, US bank, website | Local company or ID in Philippines |
| Best for | SaaS, agencies, courses, online stores selling abroad | Local sales |
Many founders use both: a local gateway for customers in Philippines and Stripe through the US LLC for everyone else.

Can I open a Stripe account in Philippines without an SSN?
Yes, if the account is for a US LLC. The LLC gets its own EIN from the IRS, so you do not need an SSN. Stripe asks a non-US representative for their passport and their TIN from Philippines, and may request more documents.
How long does it take to get Stripe from Philippines?
Forming the LLC takes a few business days to about two weeks, depending on the state. With LLCPronto, your EIN is ready within 24 hours of the LLC’s approval. Once you have a US bank account and a ready website, Stripe’s review often takes a few days.
Is it legal to use a US LLC for Stripe from Philippines?
Yes. Anyone can own a US LLC, and Stripe accepts US-registered businesses even when the owner lives abroad. What is not allowed is lying about where you live or using someone else’s identity or address. You must also follow Philippines’s own rules on foreign income and overseas companies.
